ALTITUDE
AWARENESS
The
average altitude in the area is 9,000 ft. The location for our
reception will be at 11,400 ft. As you ascend to higher
altitudes atmospheric pressure decreases, the air is thinner and less
oxygen is available. Above 8,000 feet, altitude illness affects
20-30% of visitors. Symptoms include nausea, unusual tiredness,
headache and difficulty sleeping. But take heart, there are
several ways to improve and/or avoid altitude sickness.
-
Drink
lots of water, at least 8-10 glasses a day.
-
Take
it easy the first day or two you arrive.
-
Decrease
salt intake
-
Increase
carbohydrate intake such as pancakes, pasta or rice.
-
Reduce
coffee and alcohol intake.
-
There
is also a prevention drug, Diamox. Consult your physician. For
